House Foundation Case Study Walnut Tree Close

Abbey Pynford Solves Problem....

Our Client, Woodley Lucas asked us to design and build a piled foundation for a new terrace of 6 eco houses on a very restricted site in Guildford.  This was a brownfield site with desiccated clay subsoils and had formerly been used for warehousing.  The challenge was to find an economic piled solution which could be installed close to adjacent buildings.

The access to the plots was up a narrow sloping roadway and therefore the equipment and method used had to address this limitation.  As an eco house development, it was important to use a foundation system which minimizes the carbon footprint—Housedeck has the following benefits:

  • Lower carbon footprint by up to 50%
  • Excavation minimized leading to significantly reduced landfill, which helps encourage brownfield site development
  • Manufacture/transport of precast units not required for either beams/slabs
  • Integrated slab design minimizes the quantities of steel and concrete used
  • Unique void creation system avoids the need for harmful polystyrene void formers
