Sponsorship Opportunities

The Company's commitment to innovation means that we want to recruit and train students and offer support right through from A-levels to achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer Status.  Joining Abbey Pynford will lead to a challenging and rewarding career, not simply a traineeship, because we actively encourage you to persue your interests within our business to our mutual advantage.

One of our Sponsorship Students has this to say:

Sean

Having entered into the world of Abbey Pynford, I have found the team not only to be enthusiatic but also very diverse in their activities as you will see from the pictures below they have quite a varied staff social life as well as offering me the complete package with regard to training.  I can't wait to progress further within the company.  Their knowledge base is immense and they are keen for me to learn.

What to Expect:

As a student, whatever your qualifications, Abbey Pynford offers you a range of opportunities that lead to your joining our ICE Approved Training Scheme and ultimately achieving membership of the Instituation of Civil Engineers as a Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer or Engineering Technician.

First Year Students:

One of your first decisions as a final year student will be to decide on the type of organisation in which you would like to train - a design-based consultancy, a main contractor, or a specialist contractor such as Abbey Pynford.

At Abbey Pynford you will deal with a vast variety of problems and disciplines, including both contracting and consultancy and learn to appreciate their interdependencies.  You will gain experience fast and early in your training, you will be managing contracts from inception to completion and liaising with other professions and trades contributing to the undertaking.  From this you will gain a solid understanding of the overall framework within which projects are executed and a greater appreciation of different management styles and their effectiveness.  Your high level of responsibility will similarly provide a strong insight and firm grasp of the financial regime in which companies function.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for enthusiastic and enquiring graduates to joining our Training Scheme.  The scheme will be tailored to meet your needs and you will be given support and encouragement from all members of the company to ensure that you are successful in your endeavours.  Our company philosophy is to be the best at what we do and you should exceed your original expectations of yourself.  We exist in a culture where everyone does their best, where mistakes are learned from, responsibility is taken and opportunities abound.  In addition we'll give you a competative salary, car allowance, mileage allowance and private health scheme.

 Disseration Support

Writing a dissertation can be a daunting experience.  At Abbey Pynford we have developed a range of interesting and challenging project briefs related to our business which are available through your tutor or, with their agreement, directly from us.  We will provide you with an additional industrial mentor who will give guidance and assistance with reseach, access to our facilities and every available resouce to assist you with its successful completion.  This will give you an opportunity to work with us early on in your career and to decide whether we are the type of specialist contractor you want to join on graduation, impress us and we'll sponsor you to finish your studies.

Sponsorship

Abbey Pynford sponsors its employees through part-time study through further and higher education.  Do you want to learn while you earn?

With us you will have the opportunity to become chartered within 3 years of graduating.  This is because you will be able to count your experience during the sponsorship stage and we offer a full range of integrated training from design, right the way through a project, to agreeing the final account.  You may well find that you have to run the job that you have designed - this really can be big learning!

A note from the Chairman:

Paul Kiss ChairmanI started this scheme in 2005 and I have to say it is one of my best decisions.  As a product of the Cementation graduate training scheme myself I fully understood the benefits of the training and the benefits to the company.  This remains a big achievement for a company of our size and the benefit to our people on the schemes is that they must add value to our company by means of taking responsibility and having authority for real work that really needs doing.  Our commitment to this scheme is demonstrated by the fact that this was the only area of our business that we did not cut in the recession and our plans now are to expand the scheme to more Universities.

The other big benefit is that we spend a disproprtionately large sum (for our size) on Research and Development.  This work often involves research and testing projects which can be ideal for project coursework and dissertations.

Having been involved in a number of expeditions, and outward bound activities, I am a great believer in the importance of physically orientated teambuilding work, which from the pictures you will see we have done quite a lot!

Finally, I take a personal interest in each person on the schemes and ensure that they get the right training to suit them.

- Paul Kiss, Chairman
