What is underpinning?
Underpinning is a technique used to transfer the load of a distressed structure to a suitable bearing stratum below ground.
When is underpinning required?
Underpinning is required when a building is subsiding, suffering from ground heave or to extend the existing foundations downwards to enable for example a basement construction.
Who should undertake underpinning?
All but the shallowest traditional underpinning should be undertaken by an experienced specialist contractor.
