The post holder is responsible for completing, managing and coordinating detailed designs, analyses and drawings in order to ensure that all foundation engineering aspects of a project are appropriately appraised and undertaken within appropriate timeframes and budgets, in order to optimise the revenue of the business. The role will entail daily supervision and co-ordination of specialist design subconsultants.
Support the sales team to win an agreed value of work annually, with the best margin and aimed to meet customer expectations with a view to win repeat work. This will primarily in the function of completing preliminary designs to aid the work winning function of the business.
Duties & Responsibilities
Managing & co-ordinating the day to day activities of design subconsultants.
Completing detailed designs as required.
Ensuring detailed designs remain within the agreed scope of works.
Notify client and relevant internal parties of any designs deviate from scope works due to new information & agree a route forward.
Coordinate with Design & Proposals Manager to update & maintain a design programme to ensure that designs are completed to meet expectations.
Proactively address any conflict in the design programme immediately and agree appropriate action.
Assist operations teams during the construction phase of projects to develop schemes and reduce site issues.
Aid the contracts teams in mitigation of issues when they arise on site.
Attend meetings/site visits as required.
Develop and maintain appropriate design tools in order to produce efficient, cost effective, simple to construct designs.
Qualifications & Experience
Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline (Structural or Civil Engineering).
Working towards CEng/IEng status with relevant Chartered body (IStructe or MICE).
Experience in a similar design & build role preferable.
Relevant design experience from a consultancy background will also be considered.
Previous estimating experience is preferable in order to aid commercial understanding.
Familiar with the relevant design standards & guidance British Standards.
Eurocodes, CIRIA Documents, BRE, NHBC, Premier etc.
CPD is up to date and relevant to maintain appropriate design techniques and tools to produce efficient designs both in terms of design time and construction on site to meet the ever-changing demands of the construction industry.
